Lifetime Membership in Delta Gamma...
Part of that Promise Means Paying Our Dues

~Jennifer Denton, past-president 2003-2007

(revised 9-07-08)

When we initiated into our beloved Fraternity of women, we made a commitment to support Delta Gamma for life. Part of that commitment was a promise to pay our per capita dues to the Fraternity for the first 50 years of our membership. Per Article VI of the Delta Gamma Constitution, adjustments to per capita dues may be made annually based on the Consumer Price Index from the previous calendar year. Our per capita dues are currently set at $20.50.  At Convention 2008, Delta Gamma announced a change to the way per capita dues would be collected.  In the past, we have paid our per capita dues to our alumnae chapter as part of our alum chapter dues, and then the chapter then sent a check for all dues paid members to DG Executive Offices for the per capita dues.  With the new system, they will send a request for per capita dues to each member individually.  So, you will (or already may have) receive a "Membership Dues Appeal" from the Fraternity.

This payment of our "national dues" does not mean we will not need to collect dues at the local level.  We will still collect dues for the operation of our local chapter, just at a lower amount to include only the local dues.  50+ year Delta Gamma members only pay the local amount.  These monies are what supports our chapter's operating expenses each year.  A few years ago we instituted a "sliding scale" for local dues, which created three levels of membership.  These increased dollars from your generosity allow us to devote more of our fundraising dollars to national Foundation and local philanthropic work.  Each year, the number of members paying at the Pink and Bronze level has increased, which has allowed us to work well within our budget and not have to plan major fundraising events....thank you!!!  The new amounts for our local dues, which were recently approved at our September 23, 2008 meeting are:

Blue Membership:        $20.00
Pink Membership:        $30.00
  Bronze Membership:    $40.00+

Our dues payment last year (at the Blue Level) was $38, with $19 going to EO for per capita dues, and the remaining $19 staying in San Antonio.  (For 50yr+ members, all monies paid have stayed and will stay with our local chapter.)  The three levels of membership above reflect basically the same amounts as last year, with Blue Membership increasing by $2.

Please do not confuse your "Membership Dues Appeal" with mail you may receive from the Delta Gamma Foundation.  We all receive requests from Foundation for donations to the Loyalty Fund from time to time. This fund provides alumnae the chance to further the many goals of our international Foundation. Each DG who sends a donation to the Loyalty Fund will have her name published in the ANCHORA. Funds sent to the Foundation are separate from dues sent to EO (personally or through an alumnae chapter).

If payment of your dues seems like a burden, consider this - without them, Delta Gamma cannot operate, locally or internationally. Delta Gamma has been a leader in intellectual motivation, social responsibility and community awareness in the Greek world, and we hope to continue that tradition with your help. We feel that our efforts here in San Antonio have been extremely successful, and we have each of you to thank for that. Let's all give back to the Fraternity that has given us so much over the years, so the gift of Delta Gamma can be shared with bright young women for years to come.

If you have any questions, or would like to send in your dues, please contact our treasurer, Cathy Spector, to find out where to mail your payment.
